About

This site is a collection of words, photos and websites that I’ve produced for the web. It is a place where I can put up photos of places that I’ve visited, such as the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales or of where I am now.

Web Standards

This site has been designed to conform with web standards and should be XHTML 1.0 and CSS compliant as recommended by the W3C.

Designing to web standards means that the site should be viewable in most web browsers, including devices such as PDAs and mobile phones. The markup is semantically better than traditional table layouts and thus is more accessible to screen readers.

Seperating layout (by using CSS) from content means that the site can be easily and quickly changed.

Tools of the Trade

This site is handcoded using Dreamweaver (and Notepad for quick edits) and uses the Wordpress blogging software for the blog. Images and graphics are created and enhanced using Photoshop and Fireworks. Some photos were taken with a Nikon Coolpix 990 and an Olympus C-40 Zoom. Most are now taken with a Canon 300d.

The site is tested mainly in Mozilla Firefox, and then in various versions of IE and Opera.

All this is running on a Sony Vaio PCG-R505GL with Windows XP.
